Tipsy Irish 5 Year Old Irish Whiskey Review.

Tipsy Irish 5 Year Old Irish Whiskey Review.

I received this spirit as a review sample from Tipsy Irish. It is important to clarify this did not impact the ratings of this review.

Late one night I was scrolling on instagram, as I typically do, and I ran across this bottling. Now, seeing a new Irish brand hitting the shelves, specially with an age statement caught my eye. After checking out their website I was very curious and hooked by what they creating and why they were creating it.

Tipsy Irish unique isn’t just its blending but also the personal connection of the family behind it. The brand was founded when a daughter approached her father about starting a whiskey company. So to honor their Irish heritage they headed out to find an Irish whiskey that fit their detailed profile. The family took this seriously, sourcing and blending their whiskey in Ireland before bringing it stateside. Even the name, “Tipsy Irish,” has family significance, inspired by their lively game nights and a nickname the father held. It’s a true labor of love, blending family history and Irish tradition.

Age Statement: 5 years.

ABV: 43%,

Mashbill: 100% Barley. Blended from Ex-Bourbon Casks, Sherry Casks, Virgin Oak Casks, Recharged Bourbon Casks.

Area of Distillation: Ireland.

Appearance: Dark Citrine.

On the nose:
You’re welcomed by fresh, green apple and a gentle yet sophisticated note from the sherry casks, adding touches of fig, plum, and white grape. Subtle hints of caramel and vanilla cream follow, rounded out by a classic shortbread cookie note that’s so iconic in quality Irish whiskeys. A light bit of barrel char and pepperiness shows up from the ex-bourbon. Zero harshness and nothing off in the notes.

Taste:
Instantly it comes alive on the palate with a symphony of flavors. It begins with a mellow, grain-forward barley, layered with the dark fruit richness from the sherry casks. The green apple note reappears, mingling with charred oak from the recharred bourbon, which brings a slightly spicy edge. Each sip reveals a new layer: soft vanilla from the virgin oak, buttery shortbread, and even a whisper of black pepper. To be frank, if Redbreast would ever release a younger version of their iconic 12 year whiskey, this would be on par with that.

Finish:
The finish is long and satisfying, with every cask’s contribution evident. Ex-bourbon casks bring gentle oak and caramel, while the sherry adds that rich, fruity note. The recharred bourbon contributes subtle spice, leaving a hint of charred oak on the finish. This is a whiskey that lingers, inviting you to savor every sip.

Final Thoughts:
The whiskey is remarkably well-rounded. It’s complex but not overwhelming. I give credit to the blending job. Each cask is used and showcased. It is not just a finish for finishing sake, it had actual purpose. If you enjoy Redbreast, this is right up a similar avenue. Almost like if Redbreast would release a 5 year old whiskey. For the price range it is a step up from the budget area without breaking the bank.

Rating: A (Excellent).

Cost: $42.99 for 700ml.
