Good Times Double Tokaji Cask Finished Bourbon Whiskey Review.
Good Times Double Tokaji Cask Finished Bourbon Whiskey Review.
I received this spirit as a review sample from Good Times, linked here. It is important to clarify this did not impact the ratings of this review.
Over the past year the amount of finishing in the whiskey world has been great. Personally, I love finishing and I know right now that can be fairly dividing. I love the unique, the different, or just fun finishing. It can truly make the spirit your own. When it comes to Good Times themselves, they are based out of Kentucky. Where they are taking whiskey, much of it coming from MGP, and typically keeping single barrel and barrel proof. Now, sometimes they release whiskey as just that, however they are more known for their finishing. Sometimes finishing two and three times to create a very unique profile. On paper I love the idea, giving whiskey a unique flavor without adding actual flavoring.
Now, i've been on the record of loving Tokaji cask finishing. The sweeter layers this finishing can bring are so good. And if you are unsure what Tokaji casks are, essentially they are a sweeter wine from Hungary. So far I've had Tokaji fishing from Penelope, Starlight, and even Glenmorangie; so I am excited to see how Good Times goes up against the big boys!

Appearance: Deep, Dark Mahogany.
On the nose:
A stunning blend of dark fruits greets you, figs, plums, apricots, and apples form a harmonious medley. There’s a lovely interplay of bourbon’s core notes: oak, vanilla, and a whisper of barrel char. A sweet vanilla frosting element lingers alongside subtle rye spice and earthy barley undertones, creating complexity without harsh ethanol burn.
Taste:
The first sip is lush and layered. Waves of dark fruit, plums, grapes, and stewed apples, lead the charge, followed by buttery corn sweetness and vanilla cream. There’s a playful dance between the Tokaji’s dessert-wine richness and the bourbon’s oak, spice, and caramel. The double finishing rounds out any sharp edges, creating a soft, approachable texture that’s both indulgent and balanced.
Finish:
Long, sweet, and elegant. The dark fruit slowly gives way to gentle oak, vanilla, and a hint of floral spice. What’s most impressive is the total absence of bitterness, something wine finishes can sometimes struggle with. Instead, it ends with a mellow, buttery warmth that keeps calling you back for another sip.
Final Thoughts:
Good Times Double Tokaji Finish Bourbon is a triumph of innovation and restraint. It proves that finishing, when done with skill, can enhance rather than overpower. The sweetness of the Tokaji casks intertwines seamlessly with the bourbon’s structure, creating one of the most balanced and enjoyable finished whiskeys I’ve had this year.
It easily competes with (and perhaps surpasses) other Tokaji-finished releases like Penelope or Starlight. This is a bottle that will almost certainly end up on my Top Finishes of the Year list, a beautiful example of how far creative finishing can take bourbon.
