Kunhai Whisky Sky Taiwanese Whisky Review.

Kunhai Whisky Sky Taiwanese Whisky Review.

I received this spirit as a review sample from CNS Wine & Spirits. It is important to clarify this did not impact the ratings of this review.

Kunhai Whiskey is a newer brand hitting shelves is several areas. And I'll be honest, the artwork really caught my eye. I've dabbled in Taiwanese whiskey as I've been able to and I have to give the area credit. They bring some great flavors to the whiskey world. This is the Sky release from Kunhai. Which is one of three bottles. Each of the names has a tie to Taiwanese culture. Sky is so named for the bright, clear air that backdrops the buzzing energy of Taiwan. So time to find out if Sky is as bright and clear as the name!

Age Statement: N/A.

ABV: 40%.

Mashbill: N/A.

Area of Distillation: Taiwan.

Appearance: Light golden.

On the nose:
It presents itself like a floral bouquet intertwined with soft, earthy undertones. Sweet honey and gentle floral notes lead the way, joined by the warmth of vanilla cream and a light hint of white pepper that adds just a touch of intrigue. As you delve deeper, you catch the faintest notes of peat, a whisper of smokiness, barely there but adding just enough.

Taste:
The flavors unfold with a beautiful balance of tart black cherry and vanilla cream, like a slice of rich cheesecake topped with a drizzle of dark cherry sauce. It’s sweet but not cloying, a natural dessert-like sweetness that feels sophisticated. The initial sweetness gives way to layers of subtle spice and creaminess that make each sip more inviting than the last. There’s also a soft sandalwood note that emerges, grounding the sweetness and adding a gentle warmth.

Finish:
Hints of white peach and a faint floral essence add a fresh, clean lift, keeping the finish from becoming too heavy or overwhelming. There’s also a touch of mild pepper and a whisper of oak that gives a final, satisfying touch of warmth.

Final Thoughts:
Sun delivers an impressive range of notes, blending earthy, sweet, and floral elements into a cohesive, inviting experience. This whiskey is an exceptional blend, perfect for unwinding after a savory meal and settling into a mellow evening. It brings a softness and sweetness without veering into flavored territory.

Rating: B+ (Great).

Cost: $44.99 for 700ml.
