3 Sisters Rum Co. 3 Year Old Aged Rum Review.

I received this spirit as a review sample from 3 Sisters Rum, linked here. It is important to clarify this did not impact the ratings of this review.

American rum often flies under the radar, and seeing a small distillery take on the challenge with such confidence is refreshing. Three Sisters Rum is an American craft distillery based in Pennsylvania. Personally, I love seeing transparency and their authenticity stands out. Their process leans heavily into traditional Caribbean methods, utilizing a copper pot still to capture rich, flavorful profiles. The "mash bill" features organic sugar cane with a touch of molasses. On top of that their Rums are gluten-free, vegan, and even kosher.

For the aged expression, the rum spends at least three years in white oak casks. While I've been diving down the rum path recently, I've quickly learned Caribbean copper pot stills make some of my favorite rums and I love the profile they deliver!

Age Statement: 3 years.

ABV: 40%.

Mash bill: Organic sugar cane with a touch of molasses.

Area of Distillation: Schwenksville, Pennsylvania.

Appearance: Steeped coffee.

On the nose:
The aroma immediately rewards patience. That rich copper pot still influence shines through with a delicate touch of Caribbean funk, though more refined and elegant thanks to the aging process. Sweet oak sugars mingle with earthy undertones, while caramel drizzle and vanilla bean paste dance gracefully in the background. Hints of dark molasses and Demerara sugar come through as well, tied together by a whisper of chariness from the barrel. A lovely tropical spice note, think cinnamon and clove, weaves its way into the experience, giving the nose an inviting, festive quality.

Taste:
First sip, and it’s everything you want from a craft rum. Sweet, earthy, and slightly charred, it clings beautifully to the palate with a soft oiliness, impressive for a 40% abv. Layers of cinnamon sugar, vanilla, and caramel coat the tongue, while a gentle spice kicks in, reminiscent of the warming notes found in a good Jamaican rum. The oak influence is soft and supportive, bringing structure without overwhelming the natural sweetness. That hint of molasses remains present, blending seamlessly with brown sugar and fresh sugar cane flavors. There's even an unexpected but charming sassafras note, similar to a homemade sassafras beer, adding nostalgia and uniqueness to the profile.

Finish:
The finish is lingering and graceful, offering light black peppercorn spice and a faint echo of the festive sassafras and cinnamon flavors. It stays grounded in its earthy-sweet core, slowly fading but inviting another sip. For a rum aged just three years, the sense of maturity and balance is impressive.

Final Thoughts:
Three Sisters Rum 3 Year Old Aged Rum is a revelation, a craft rum that hits every note you hope for. Sweet, earthy, refined, and nostalgic, it delivers a drinking experience that punches well above its price point. You’re getting a beautifully crafted rum that’s both a standout sipper and a fantastic base for cocktails like a rum Old Fashioned. American rum is often under appreciated, but bottles like this make a strong case for seeking it out. This is a bottle worth hunting down.

Rating: +A (Perfection).
