3 Sisters Rum Co. Banana Vanilla Infused Rum Review.
I received this spirit as a review sample from 3 Sisters Rum, linked here. It is important to clarify this did not impact the ratings of this review.
Three Sisters Rum, is an American craft distillery based in Pennsylvania. American rum often flies under the radar, and seeing a small distillery take on the challenge with such confidence is refreshing. Their process leans heavily into traditional Caribbean methods, utilizing a copper pot still to capture rich, flavorful profiles. For their Rum, they choose to use organic sugar cane to make their base. Personally, I love seeing transparency on the process, shows they are proud on the product. On top of that their Rums are gluten-free, vegan, and even kosher.
The great thing 3 Sisters Rum is doing a bit different is the fact they are adding the natural flavor during distillation NOT afterwards. This allows the infusion of flavors to marry together VS just being an additive. Now in the confectionary world, Banana can be a difficult flavor to nail. If not done correctly, it can end up "too artificial" or just an "off" profile. I am going in with high hopes since the other infused Rums they have released were really great.
Age Statement: Unaged.
ABV: 40%.
Mash bill: Organic sugar cane. Infused with natural Banana and vanilla flavor.
Area of Distillation: Schwenksville, Pennsylvania.
Appearance: Pale golden.
On the nose:
On the nose:
The first impression is vivid and unmistakably fresh banana, one peeled moments ago, just shy of full ripeness. There’s a gentle green tinge to the aroma, giving it an authentic and slightly tart edge. Layered underneath is that pot still character: a bit of rum funk and earthly sweet sugar cane. The vanilla isn’t dominant but weaves through the aroma, adding a creamy, dessert-like note that evokes banana cream pie or pudding. Importantly, it’s not cloying, artificial, or candy-like. This is fresh, creamy, and balanced.
Taste:
Flavor follows nose beautifully. Bright banana leads the charge, again, not candy banana, but an earthy, ripe version that feels grounded in the real fruit. That vanilla element comes in as a soft wave, rounding things out and making it feel almost like a dessert rum. The pot still character stays strong, offering an earthy, sugarcane depth that reinforces the banana rather than getting lost beneath it. There’s a soft sweetness, but it’s not overdone. It holds together impressively well for a flavored rum, especially at 40%. There's a slight creaminess, but no harsh edges or overproof bite.
Finish:
The finish trails off gently, with the vanilla note lingering like the last bite of a banana cream pie. It’s smooth and clean, leaving behind a hint of ripe fruit and light sugarcane. Even as the flavors fade, the integrity of the rum remains intact, never turning bitter or hollow.
On Ice:
Chilled down, the rum takes on a more subtle character. The banana note softens significantly, allowing more of the white rum’s earthy, sugarcane-driven base to shine through. That pot still rum funk becomes a bit more pronounced, and the sweetness dials back, making it more approachable for those who prefer their infusions on the lighter side. The vanilla remains but becomes more of a whisper than a wave. Importantly, the infusion doesn’t get lost, it simply becomes more restrained. For cocktail use or casual sipping on a warm day, this is a highly versatile pour.
Final Thoughts:
Three Sisters Rum Co. has something special here. Banana is notoriously difficult to get right in spirits, often coming across as artificial or overpowering. But here, it’s balanced, fresh, and nuanced. The rum base isn’t lost, either, this is still very much a rum first, with flavor acting in harmony rather than as a cover. Compared to the brand’s peach infusion (which earned a B+), this banana vanilla might just edge it out. It’s playful yet refined, sweet without being saccharine, and versatile enough to sip neat, enjoy over ice, or mix into tropical cocktails.
Rating: B+ (Great).
Cost: $34.95 for 750ml.
