Elijah Craig Single Barrel Private Barrel Bourbon Whiskey Review.
Elijah Craig Single Barrel Private Barrel Bourbon Whiskey Review.
Every so often, bourbon hunting pays off in unexpected ways. On a routine stop at a local shop, I stumbled upon something I had only heard whispers about: an Elijah Craig Single Barrel Private Barrel Kentucky Straight Bourbon. I’ve seen people mention these online, but I had never come across one in person.
This particular pick was a store selection collaboration between Winfield Five Star and The Country Seat. Much like the Elijah Craig Small Batch, it carries Heaven Hill’s classic Elijah Craig's mash bill. Being a single barrel, flavors can shift depending on the rickhouse location and the nuances of that specific cask. At 11 years old, it falls right in the sweet spot for aging, old enough to show depth, but not so long that oak takes over.
Age Statement: 11 years.
ABV: 47%. (Single Barrel).
Mash bill: 8% corn, 12% malted barley, and 10% rye,
Area of Distillation: Kentucky.
Appearance: Rich Mahogany.

On the nose:
Immediately, it’s Elijah Craig Small Batch turned up a notch. There’s sweetness layered with vanilla cream and royal icing, paired with spiciness, nuttiness, and a touch of oak. A soft fruit medley lingers underneath, delicate and inviting. While I do wish the ABV was a bit higher to bring across deeper nuances, it is still showing a balance of refinement and subtlety.
Taste:
Velvety, soft, and beautifully coated across the tongue. Classic bourbon flavors shine through: vanilla, sweet oak, cinnamon, clove, and a peppery spice that adds liveliness without being sharp. A surprising banana note emerges, adding an interesting twist I hadn’t noticed in Elijah Craig before. Each sip carries a satisfying weight, thick, viscous, yet elegant.
Finish:
Long and graceful, leaning on sweet oak, vanilla, and refined spice. Nothing harsh, nothing out of place. It’s unoffensive in the best way, easygoing, approachable, and deeply enjoyable for its price point.
Final Thoughts:
This Elijah Craig Single Barrel Private Barrel won’t rewrite bourbon history, but it doesn’t need to. What it delivers is an 11-year-old single barrel bourbon from a heritage distillery is a rarity in today’s market. It’s balanced, delicious, and a perfect daily drinker. If you spot one on the shelf, don’t hesitate, it’s worth bringing home.
