Dark Arts Whiskey House Mizunara Finished Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey Review.

Dark Arts Whiskey House Mizunara Finished Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey Review.

Dark Arts Whiskey House is a brand that’s been steadily building a reputation for craftsmanship and creativity. I first encountered them back in 2024 when they sent a few bottles my way for review, and by the end of that year, I found myself hunting down nearly everything they released. Here in 2025, that trend has only grown worse… or better, depending on how you look at it. Their new Mizunara Oak Finished Kentucky Straight Bourbon is the latest addition to their core lineup, and from the looks of things, it’s aiming to make a lasting impression.

The mash bill immediately stood out to me: a recipe identical to Wilderness Trail’s bourbon mash bill. While not confirmed, the similarity is intriguing, as Wilderness Trail consistently produces some exceptional whiskey. That connection alone had me excited to pop the cork on this one.

Age Statement: N/A.

ABV: 50%.

Mash bill: 64% corn, 24% rye, and 12% malted barley.

Area of Distillation: Kentucky.

Appearance: warm honey.

On the nose:
The aroma bursts with butterscotch, sweet corn dust, and a wave of sandalwood and cedar from the Mizunara. A touch of spiced herbal rye character cuts through, adding depth and a whisper of green grass and peppercorn. There’s a fleeting hint of ethanol, reminiscent of nail polish remover, but it fades quickly. Beneath it, subtle blueberry and vanilla tones emerge, adding both freshness and sweetness to the bouquet.

Taste:
The first sip lands softly with creamy texture and buttery richness. Notes of caramel, vanilla, and cinnamon butter intertwine beautifully with the Mizunara’s hallmark sandalwood and cedar qualities. The bourbon character holds strong, balanced by gentle spice, a touch of nutmeg, and a faint fruit sweetness, again echoing those blueberry tones from the nose. Every sip feels layered and expressive, showing both the bourbon’s roots and the finishing wood’s influence in harmony.

Finish:
Long and satisfying, the finish hums with cinnamon, clove, oak spice, and that beautiful Mizunara sandalwood incense note. A peppery warmth lingers before settling into a soft, buttery fade. It’s elegant and complex, like walking through an old cedar chest dusted with sugar and spice.

Final Thoughts:
Dark Arts Whiskey House has knocked it out of the park with this one. For around $60, this bottle delivers exceptional depth and balance, easily punching above its price. The Mizunara oak finish enhances the bourbon rather than overpowering it, offering a well-rounded and expressive pour that feels refined yet approachable. My only critique lies in that brief nose ethanol note—but the palate more than redeems it.

Rating: -A (Amazing).

Cost: $59.99 for 750ml.
