13th Colony Distilleries Barrel Aged Gin Review.  I received this spirit as a review sample from 13th Colony Distilleries, linked here . It is important to clarify this did not impact the ratings of this review.     Over the past few years,  13th Colony Distilleries has truly been making a name for itself. Starting off with a solid Bourbon and Rye and most notably the Double Oaked Bourbon. They also been hitting the shelves with a lot of positive feedback on their Gin and Vodka. Being a Gin fan long before doing spirit reviews, the moment I was told this was being released I couldn't contain my excitement. I love Gin and even more so, barrel aged Gin.           After reading up on the release with a high proof point, the use of a Rye cask, plus a finishing time, that excitement grew.  This gin is aged for one year in rye whiskey barrels and bottled at a bolder ABV compared to most gins on the market. It’s an experimental spiri...

Lasso Motel Port Cask Finished Bourbon Whiskey Review.

Lasso Motel Port Cask Finished Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey Review.      I received this spirit as a review sample from Lasso Motel, linked here . It is important to clarify this did not impact the ratings of this review.      Tonight’s pour comes courtesy of Lasso Motel, a newer name on the scene making waves with their creative approach to finished bourbons. This particular bottle—a Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey finished in port casks. Transparency is front and center here. Lasso Motel sources their bourbon from Green River Distilling, who has been creating some amazing whiskey in recent time. They also share the exact mash bill for this release, which is appreciated. Finally, Lasso takes that bourbon and finishes it in a Port cask. Personally port finishing has been a favorite of mine and excited to see yet another option on the shelves.  For the full video review visit the link here:  https://youtu.be/qZDCNp8eQqI Age Statement: ...

Lazy K Bar Whiskey Bourbon Whiskey Review.

Lazy K Bar Whiskey Bourbon Whiskey Review.      I received this spirit as a review sample from Lazy K Bar Whiskey, linked here . It is important to clarify this did not impact the ratings of this review.      The Lazy K Bar itself is one of Montana’s oldest cattle and guest ranches, with a history dating back to the 1950s. Now, with this release, what really caught my eye is the blending job. This is using Bourbon from Kentucky using age statements of 8, 9, and 10 year old Bourbon aged in #4 alligator char barrels. Not only using older whiskey into the blend should give it some more complexity but to be transparent on those numbers is even better. For the full video review visit the link here:  https://youtu.be/yQhOFvl70YM Age Statement: 8 years. ABV:  46%. Mash bill:  N/A. Area of Distillation : Kentucky. Blending: A blend of 8, 9, and 10 year old Bourbon from Kentucky. Appearance: Rich golden hue. On the nose:      Right a...

Echo Spirits Distilling Company Genever Spirit Review.

Echo Spirits Distilling Company Genever Spirit Review.      I received this spirit as a review sample from Echo Spirits Distilling Company, linked here . It is important to clarify this did not impact the ratings of this review.      Echo Spirits Distilling Company, based in Columbus, Ohio, is doing some fun and interesting releases in the craft distillery space. Whether they're distilling in-house or sourcing selectively, they make their process clear and that’s something to appreciate. When I saw they were making a Genever, a malt-based botanical spirit with Dutch roots, I knew I had to try it. Unlike the neutral grain spirit and juniper berries used in Gin, Genever starts with a malt whiskey base. As a fan of gin, botanical spirits, and just about anything that takes a creative leap, I was excited from the first glance. For the full video review visit the link here:  https://youtu.be/RyCifx344o0 . Age Statement: Unaged. ABV: 37...

Abduction Whiskey Straight Bourbon Whiskey Review.

Image
Abduction Whiskey Straight Bourbon Whiskey Review.      I received this spirit as a review sample from Abduction Whiskey, linked here . It is important to clarify this did not impact the ratings of this review.     Abduction Whiskey is based out of Pacifica California. Where the bottling itself is only about six months old, but the amount of passion behind the brand stems much longer.  Ryan Murray, a chiller mechanic, he took a leap of faith to turn his love for whiskey into something tangible, a move that resonates with many dreamers in the whiskey world. With an alien-themed aesthetic that ties into the idea of “abducting” barrels to create something uniquely their own. The bourbon is sourced from MGP and blended in-house to develop a their profile. While many bottlings opt for a three-grain combination, going with four should bring an extra layer of complexity that can enhance both texture and flavor.  For the full video review visit th...

Dovetail Distillery Cut Throat Oat Whiskey Review.

Dovetail Distillery Cut Throat Oat Whiskey Review.      I received this spirit as a review sample from Dovetail Distillery, linked here . It is important to clarify this did not impact the ratings of this review.           Dovetail Distillery, currently the smallest craft distillery based in Nevada. Currently the distillery is doing quite a bit with unique grains and one of those grains is Oats. Oats can be a fun grain your craft distilleries can play around with and add a unique profile to their spirits. Their Cutthroat Oat Whiskey is no exception, bringing three unique grains to the mix. After being double distilled it is aged for two years in custom char/toast American white oak 15-gallon barrels. This barrel size can be tricky, it does take a keen eye and palate to make sure this size of barrel doesn't take over.       Given my fascination with oat-based spirits, I was eager to dive into this bottle and see how Dovetai...
