Abduction Whiskey Straight Bourbon Whiskey Review.
I received this spirit as a review sample from Abduction Whiskey, linked here. It is important to clarify this did not impact the ratings of this review.
Abduction Whiskey is based out of Pacifica California. Where the bottling itself is only about six months old, but the amount of passion behind the brand stems much longer. Ryan Murray, a chiller mechanic, he took a leap of faith to turn his love for whiskey into something tangible, a move that resonates with many dreamers in the whiskey world. With an alien-themed aesthetic that ties into the idea of “abducting” barrels to create something uniquely their own. The bourbon is sourced from MGP and blended in-house to develop a their profile. While many bottlings opt for a three-grain combination, going with four should bring an extra layer of complexity that can enhance both texture and flavor.

On the nose:
On the nose:
The aroma greets you with a wave of sweet, buttery corn, followed by rich toffee and a hint of spice. Rye’s signature peppery notes are present but balanced, complemented by the softer, spiced sweetness of wheat. There’s a light barrel char in the background, mingling with vanilla and a subtle waxy note from the barley. The nose gives the impression of a whiskey that drinks older than its years, with no harsh alcohol bite or off-putting youthful notes. A pleasant fruitiness emerges, think Honeycrisp Apples, blending with herbal rye undertones and a delicate touch of oak.
Taste:
The first sip is an enjoyable ride. A burst of fresh apple sweetness comes forward, followed by creamy vanilla and gentle oak. The spice is restrained but present, with wheat contributing a soft, warming complexity alongside the rye’s sharper edge. The buttery richness from the nose carries through beautifully, bringing back those indulgent caramel and toffee notes. As the flavors develop, layers of toasted sugar, reminiscent of crème brûlée with a hint of barrel char. The mouthfeel is smooth and coating, reinforcing the impression that this drinks older than a three-to-four-year bourbon.
Finish:
Long and inviting, the finish carries a lingering warmth with soft spice, honeycrisp apple dipped in caramel, and a final whisper of oak. It leaves a craving for another sip, making it dangerously easy to enjoy. The balance of sweet and spice plays well, and the whiskey holds its structure impressively throughout.
Final Thoughts:
Abduction Whiskey Straight Bourbon Whiskey showcases a thoughtful balance of flavors. The choice to use all four grains pays off, creating a whiskey that is sweet, creamy, and complex without any single element overwhelming the others. The buttery caramel notes and rich apple sweetness make it an easy sipper, while the underlying spice and oak provide enough structure to keep things interesting. It’s versatile enough to be enjoyed neat, on the rocks, or in a well-made cocktail.
Rating: B+ (Above Average).
