Bulleit Bourbon Bottled in Bond Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey Review.
Now, Bulleit is one of those iconic names in the spirits world. They been doing some solid sourcing over the years with their standard Bourbon and Rye and expanding their portfolio with their 10 year Bourbon, 10 year Rye, 12 year Rye, and are recently American Single Malt. Now, Bulleit is ready to step into the distillation field with their first release containing 100% their own whiskey. Barreled in 2017, they decided to keep this release a Bottled in Bond, though having no official age statement outside of the 4 years that comes with Bottled in Bond.
I was a bit shocked to actually find this on the shelf so soon from release here in Indiana. We typically don't see new drops that quickly, but I can honestly say I am excited to jump on this one when I saw it on the shelves.
Age Statement: Minimum 4 years (could be closer to 7 years due to distillation date).
ABV: 50%.
Mash bill: N/A.
Area of Distillation: Kentucky.
Appearance: Warm golden hue.
On the nose:
Bright citrus notes—freshly squeezed orange jump forward, alongside an herbal spiciness that leans into spearmint and fresh-cut herbs. Classic bourbon elements like caramel, vanilla, and oak char are present but take a back seat to the rye’s punchy, aromatic qualities. There’s even a touch of black tea and baking spices, particularly cinnamon and clove, adding layers of intrigue. I wouldn't be surprised if this was a "high Rye" Bourbon.
Taste:
The first sip reveals a rich, coating mouthfeel with a nice balance of spice and sweetness. Herbal rye spice comes through with floral undertones, while oak char and vanilla smooth out the edges. The proof is well-integrated, offering depth without harshness. The mid-palate brings a hint of dusty corn sweetness, while that signature Bulleit rye spice lingers with a minty, almost tea-like quality.
Finish:
Long and warming, with lingering oak char, subtle cinnamon, and an herbal freshness that ties it all together. It drinks older than the four-year minimum, reinforcing the suspicion that this is likely closer to a seven-year whiskey. There’s no bitterness or off-putting notes—just a well-balanced, flavorful finish that keeps you coming back for more.
Final Thoughts:
Bulleit Bottled in Bond is a welcome addition to the lineup, offering a step up from their standard bourbon while staying true to their roots. It delivers a bolder, more refined experience than the baseline expression and a well addition to the lineup. This is a solid buy for those who enjoy Bulleit’s profile or high-rye bourbons in general and I truly hope this stays shelf stable.
