Four Finger Distillery Single Malt Whiskey Review.
Four Finger Distillery Single Malt Whiskey Review.
Released in 2023, this whiskey stands out for its unique mash bill and crafted entirely in-house, distilled, aged, and bottled in Indianapolis, this release is a showcase of craft distilling innovation. The use of chocolate malt instantly caught my attention, suggesting a rich and layered profile even before pouring the first glass.

Age Statement: N/A.
ABV: 45%.
Mash bill: 80% Pale Malt, 20% Chocolate Malt.
Area of Distillation: Westfield, Indiana.
Appearance: Dark rich oak.
On the nose:
Immediately, the malt presence shines. Dark, oily barley leads the way with a heavy, grain-forward punch. The chocolate malt is unmistakable, giving off rich milk chocolate notes layered with spice, cedar, and even sandalwood. A waxy texture adds depth, and hints of oak sweetness round it out. This is a nose that leans into craft identity while staying elegant.
Taste:
The first sip is strikingly chocolatey, almost like Mexican hot chocolate with a touch of spice. Layers of espresso and chocolate-covered coffee beans develop, coating the palate with a velvety, buttery richness. Earthy and soft barley notes linger beneath, supported by oak sugars and that same waxy character from the nose. It evolves sip by sip, revealing more espresso and coffee bean notes as it lingers.
Finish:
Smooth, warming, and complex. It carries the chocolate, oak, and coffee notes forward with a touch of spice. Nothing harsh or unbalanced, just a well-rounded, deeply flavorful close that invites another sip.
Final Thoughts:
Four Finger’s Single Malt Whiskey is one of the best craft single malts I’ve had in quite some time, and the fact that it comes from right here in Indiana makes it even more exciting. It delivers complexity and approachability that feel like an after-dinner coffee in whiskey form. With a few more years, it could be remarkable, but even now it shows a mastery of grain and oak that deserves praise. Highly recommended if you can visit the distillery and snag a bottle.
