Hunt Club Distillery Hunt Club 88 Whiskey Review.
Hunt Club Distillery Hunt Club 88 Whiskey Review.
Hunt Club Distillery is based out of Sheridan, Indiana where they are distilling, aging, and bottling everything in-house, using locally sourced grains and a distinctly hands-on approach. Among their lineup of vodka, gin, and even high proof versions of these spirits. For distillation Hunt Club is using a hand-hammered Portuguese pot still and local Indiana grains.
When it comes to the Hunt Club 88 whiskey, it aged for a minimum of four years, primarily in ex-Jack Daniel's barrels, though Heaven Hill and Wild Turkey barrels have also been in the mix. Since this is a corn based whiskey and aging in used barrels, it is a different beast from the typical bourbon experience. With knowing the process the whiskey should be leaning into softness and sweetness rather than complexity from a multi-grain mash bill. Due to this you are relying on the corn profile and the used barrels to do all the talking and to bring the flavors.

On the nose:
Soft, sweet corn leads the way with a gentle, buttery aroma. There’s a delicate thread of light barrel char, but it’s subtle. Vanilla buttercream and a hint of caramel come through as well. The overall aroma profile is clean and inviting, almost reminiscent of a barrel-aged gin, minus the botanicals, of course.
Taste:
It opens soft and sweet, with familiar notes of vanilla, buttercream, and a light kiss of caramel. A whisper of barrel spice adds just enough depth. There’s no heat, no rough edges—just a smooth, easy sipper that lets the corn speak for itself. It’s like buttered sweet corn from your childhood, microwaved in a pinch rather than grilled, but comforting and warm all the same.
Finish:
The finish is short to medium, fading gently with more of that sweet corn and a faint trace of vanilla. It’s not layered or complex, but it doesn’t need to be. It stays true to what it is—pleasant and approachable.
Final Thoughts:
Hunt Club Whiskey is a great example of a local craft distillery doing a simple thing well. You're getting a locally produced, transparent, and purposefully made whiskey. No off-notes, no gimmicks, just a clean pour with soft sweetness and an easygoing nature. Would I love to see a bottled-in-bond version? Absolutely They have released a cask strength version recently, and I’m definitely tempted to pick one up to review. But for what this is, an everyday sipper from Indiana, it’s a success.
