Jeptha Creed 6 Year Wheated Bourbon Whiskey Review.
Jeptha Creed 6 Year Wheated Bourbon Whiskey Review.
I received this spirit as a review sample from Jeptha Creed, linked here. It is important to clarify this did not impact the ratings of this review.
Jeptha Creed Distillery, based in Shelbyville, Kentucky is what you want to hear when you see "craft distillery." Not only is Jeptha Creed family owned and operated, most of the grains are actually harvested from their own farms. On top of that it is a mother daughter duo at the helm and running the distillation process. Which, seeing more women get into the spirits world is just amazing. The big thing Jeptha Creed hones in on is the use of bloody butcher corn.
This release is their highest age statement to release to the public. Now while there is no true definition in the TTB for "wheated" typically this refers to the mash bill having a high content of wheat. Jeptha Creed decided to take it a step further and use malted wheat VS standard wheat. This should typically bring out more "sweeter" wheat notes. On top of that, they are using a high build of bloody butcher corn. Personally when done right, I lose the profile bloody butcher can bring in a bourbon. Also, keeping things at an older statement should really help that bloody butcher corn fully develop and refine those flavors.

On the nose:
On the nose:
The nose is where that Bloody Butcher Corn instantly takes center stage. It opens with an earthy, floral complexity, cedar chest, herbal spice, and a subtle sweetness weaving through it all. Think green apple with a tart orchard twist, just bordering on the aroma of a warm apple turnover. There’s also a rustic quality here, a touch of nuttiness and wood, almost like walking through a whole-foods-style market’s bulk section. It’s distinctly craft, but in the best way possible.
Taste:
That grain-forward identity continues right onto the tongue. It’s dusty and husky at first, layered with earthy florals and that signature Bloody Butcher profile. The malted wheat brings a gentle spiciness and an herbal undertone, with notes drifting toward honey-drizzled granola. There’s even a whisper of that apple pastry from the nose making another appearance. On the second sip, sweeter tones emerge, dark cherry, homemade caramel, and a hint of Madagascar vanilla bean. It feels full, flavorful, and honest. By the third sip, crème brûlée and vanilla custard join the mix, harmonizing beautifully with the barrel’s char and wood sugars. No harshness, no off notes, just pure craft expression.
Finish:
The finish is clean, lightly peppery, and just long enough to make an impression. That cedar chest note lingers gently, with a whisper of dark fruit and vanilla riding off into the distance. It’s restrained, but never lacking.
Final Thoughts:
This falls into that sweet spot for premium craft bourbon, especially given the estate-grown grains, in-house production, and transparency around the mash bill. It’s not your average bourbon, and that’s exactly the point. Bloody Butcher Corn brings a unique flavor profile that won’t be for everyone, but for those looking to explore something different, this bottle delivers in spades. It's bold, balanced, and unmistakably craft.
Rating: B+ (Great).
