Hunt Club Distillery 151 Proof Gin Review.    


    Located in Sheridan, Indiana, just north of the Indianapolis market, Hunt Club Distillery prides itself on distilling, aging, and bottling all their own spirits on-site. Their gin heritage runs deep, with the current master distiller carrying on a tradition passed down through his father and grandfather. Local pride is at the heart of their work, sourcing many botanicals from Indiana and even hand-picking them personally. This 151-proof release is one of their newest creations, available exclusively at the distillery in 375 ml bottles. It’s a bold proof for a gin, but one they’ve managed with surprising finesse.

    Everything about this gin screams local pride. Most of the botanicals, specifically the juniper, are sourced from right here in Indiana, and are even picked by hand. The result is a spirit that feels rooted in place and personality. While it’s got the muscle for a killer cocktail, I wanted to sip it neat first to see how it really drinks.

On the nose:
    The first aroma is a clean, fresh juniper, soft rather than overpowering. layered with coriander, fresh-cracked black pepper, and a gentle citrus zest. Lemon peel provides a bright lift, while a subtle vanilla cream sweetness softens the edges. For its formidable proof, the nose is astonishingly approachable, with no harsh ethanol sting, a testament to the distillation skill behind it.


Taste:
    The sip is shockingly smooth, drinking closer to 45% ABV than its true strength. Peppery spice and citrus zest lead the way, with a restrained juniper presence and a touch of pine. The texture is light yet mouth-coating, evaporating quickly on the tongue without feeling aggressive. Earthy undertones balance the brightness, making it an easy sipper despite the power. It’s the kind of gin that makes you crave a briny olive, the makings of what could be the ultimate “lazy martini.”


Finish:
    Soft, warm, and lingering with pepper, juniper, and citrus. The botanicals remain elegant and well-integrated, never overwhelming the senses, and the proof only shows itself as a gentle, enveloping heat.

    Hunt Club Distillery's 151 Gin stands out as one of the most impressively balanced high-proof gins I’ve ever tasted. Its softness defies its ABV, making it just as enjoyable neat as it would be in a martini or other classic cocktail. For local gin lovers, it’s a must-have. Its craftsmanship, approachability, and unique local identity that showcases what Indiana can bring to the market. Hunt Club Distillery has proven that even at 151 proof, gin can be refined, elegant, and dangerously drinkable.
