Milam & Greene Provisions Blend Bourbon Whiskeys Review.

I received this spirit as a review sample from Milam & Greene, linked here. It is important to clarify this did not impact the ratings of this review.

Tonight’s pour comes from Milam & Greene, a distillery that has quickly gained a reputation for doing things differently. Heather Greene and her team have been blending Kentucky straight bourbon with Texas pot still whiskey, crafting something unique that bridges two very different traditions. When I first heard about the Provisions Blend, I was intrigued, especially since it promised to bring a budget-friendly option to the shelf without sacrificing quality. The commemorative first-release bottle design is elegant without being flashy, a welcome sight on any shelf.

The Provisions combines Kentucky bourbon and Texas pot still bourbon, both aged in standard 53-gallon barrels, no shortcuts with small casks here. While many budget bottles can feel watered down, this one leans on the depth of Texas whiskey to add richness and character. The strategy is simple but could be quite effective.

Age Statement: N/A.

ABV: 40%.

Mash bill: 70% corn, 22% rye, and 8% malted barley

Area of Distillation: Kentucky and Texas.

Appearance: Golden citrine.

On the nose:
The nose opens with citrus and orchard fruit sweetness, balanced by a gentle nuttiness—think walnuts and cashews. Layers of brown sugar, vanilla, and oak char come through softly, with a touch of spice from the rye. What really stands out is how approachable it is: no harsh alcohol, no off-notes, just a soft, inviting aroma that bridges sweetness and nuttiness in a way that feels almost like maple syrup over a bowl of mixed nuts and apples.

Taste:
The first sip is unexpectedly rich for a 40% ABV whiskey. Sweet maple syrup leads the way, quickly joined by walnut, apple, and a breakfast-like combination of pancakes, syrup, and fruit. The rye adds a light earthy tobacco note, while the barley brings in a subtle waxiness. The balance is impressive: it’s sweet without being cloying, nutty without being overpowering, and complex without losing its easy-drinking charm.

Finish:
The finish is soft but lingering, with maple, walnut, and gentle spice holding steady. It’s not overly long, but for its proof and price, it leaves a satisfying impression and no bitterness.

Final Thoughts:
Milam & Greene’s Provisions Blend hits exactly where it aims to: a budget-friendly bourbon that still offers depth, balance, and character. This is a bottle worth keeping on the shelf for both seasoned whiskey drinkers and newcomers alike. It has enough complexity to sip neat, enough softness to share with friends, and enough versatility to make a solid cocktail base. For a first release in this series, Milam & Greene have delivered a whiskey that proves blending can elevate even the budget category.

Rating: B (Above average).

Cost: $34.99 for 750ml.
