Three Floyd's Distillery Well of Whispers Single Malt Whiskey Review.

Three Floyd's Distillery Well of Whispers Single Malt Whiskey Review.

Three Floyds has long been a staple in the craft beer world, but in recent years they’ve been turning heads with their distilling program. Based in Indiana, they’ve been releasing some unique whiskeys, often playing with high malt bills and even incorporating grains tied to their brewing heritage. Their newest release for 2025, the Well of Whispers American Single Malt, is bottled in bond at 100 proof and made entirely with malted barley grown in Lebanon, Indiana. That transparency and local sourcing is exactly what I love seeing from craft producers, and I was eager to see how Three Floyds would handle a straight-ahead American single malt.

The Well of Whispers is crafted from 100% Indiana-grown malted barley, distilled and aged entirely in-house by Three Floyds. As a bottled in bond whiskey, it carries the guarantee of being at least four years old, distilled in a single season, and bottled at 100 proof, and under one master distiller. The choice to keep things straightforward, no fancy finishing, no outside sourcing, shows confidence in their base spirit.

Age Statement: 4 years (As per the TTB requirement for Bottle in Bond).

ABV: 50%.

Mash bill: 100% malted barley.

Area of Distillation: Munster, Indiana.

Appearance: deep golden-brown.

On the nose:
The nose is classic malt-forward with earthy sweetness and a touch of waxiness. Vanilla comes through, but more in the darker, vanilla bean sense than bright vanilla cream. Layers of chocolate toffee bar and Heath bar richness develop, rounded out by soft char from the oak. A hint of white pepper and faint heat remind you this is a bottled in bond craft release.

Taste:
The whiskey drinks with a gentle sweetness and balance. Barley leads the way, earthy and waxy, followed by a wave of milk chocolate, toffee, and caramel. White pepper adds a nice counterpoint, while a soft green apple sweetness sneaks in on later sips. The texture is where this shines—clingy, warming, and pleasantly mouth-coating for its age.

Finish:
Medium in length, the finish carries chocolate, toffee, and a little coffee bitterness without ever leaning too sweet or too dry. That waxy texture lingers, making each sip feel a bit more complex than you might expect from a four-year-old malt.

Final Thoughts:
Three Floyds’ Well of Whispers delivers a lot for a young American single malt. The texture in particular elevates it beyond what I’d expect. It’s approachable, balanced, and a great introduction for bourbon drinkers who want to branch into malt without being overwhelmed. With time, I think this whiskey will only get better, if Three Floyds can push it to six or seven years, it could become a real standout in the category. As it is, it’s a fun, honest, and well-executed craft release worth trying if you can track down a bottle.

Rating: B- (Fairly good).

Cost: $59.99 for 750ml.
