Three Floyds Warspite Straight Malt Whiskey Review.

Three Floyds Warspite Straight Malt Whiskey

Three Floyds has long been a force in the craft beer scene, but in recent years they’ve been carving their own path in the whiskey world. Based in Indiana, the distillery has fully embraced doing everything in-house, from grain selection to distillation, and Warspite is their latest statement piece. Released in 2024, this straight malt whiskey caught my attention the moment I saw its mash bill. It's unique, unconventional, and unapologetically creative, it’s the kind of bottle that demands exploration. And as always, Three Floyds pairs it with striking label art that feels like a collectible in its own right.

Warspite is aged at least four years, meeting the legal standard for straight malt whiskey, but the mash bill is what makes it truly special. The use of malted oats and malted white wheat alongside barley and a touch of corn creates a layered flavor foundation before the spirit ever touches oak. By keeping all production in-house, Three Floyds ensures a distinct house style, one that blends brewing sensibilities with whiskey craftsmanship.

Age Statement: +4 years.

ABV: 50%.

Mashbill: 66% Malted Barley, 18% Malted Oats, 9% Malted White Wheat, 7% Corn.

Area of Distillation: Munster, Indiana.

Appearance: Toasted amber.

On the nose:
Soft and approachable, with barley-driven maltiness front and center. Sweet vanilla and caramel mingle with light char, bringing to mind a blow-torched crème brûlée. There’s a gentle pilsner beer-like quality — a fresh, grainy aroma that’s both nostalgic and comforting. Underneath, you’ll find hints of toasted marshmallow, faint coffee, and a wisp of oak spice. No harsh alcohol presence, just a well-integrated bouquet.

Taste:
The whiskey delivers on its malt-driven promise with layers of flavor. The beer-like maltiness dominates but is balanced by sweet vanilla custard and caramel, evoking toasted marshmallow. There’s a gentle wheat spice, a touch of cedar, and a creamy, almost Heath-toffee-bar-like quality. The malted oats add a whisper of earthiness, while the charred undertones create depth.

Finish:
The malt influence is immediate, delivering that same pilsner-like grain character, but now layered with creamy vanilla custard, toffee, and caramel. The wheat brings a subtle spice while the malted oats offer a soft earthiness. The char note from the nose carries over, giving depth without bitterness, and the overall texture is smooth and balanced. At 50% ABV, it’s surprisingly gentle, no burn, just rich, malty sweetness with a touch of cedar and toasted marshmallow.

Final Thoughts:
Three Floyds Warspite Straight Malt Whiskey is a standout example of innovative craft distilling. The mash bill alone sets it apart, and the resulting profile delivers a harmonious mix of sweet, malty, and subtly earthy flavors. It offers excellent value for a four-year-old craft whiskey, especially one with such a distinct personality. It’s approachable yet complex, making it an excellent choice for a bottle share or a quiet evening pour.
