Three Floyds Distilling Bottled in Bond Malted Wheat Whiskey Review.

Image
Three Floyds Distilling is a name I find myself revisiting more often than I ever expected. Based out of Munster, Indiana, they built their reputation in the beer world with cult favorites like Zombie Dust and Gumballhead before shifting serious focus toward distillation. Over the last several years, that same creative energy has clearly carried over into their spirits lineup. Wolfborne immediately stood out to me because it represents something truly uncommon in American whiskey, a bottled in bond malted wheat whiskey built around a mash bill that most distilleries would never attempt. As soon as I saw the grain breakdown, I knew this was a bottle I had to spend time with.       Wolforne is distilled, aged, and bottled entirely by Three Floyds using a single pot still and meets all bottled in bond requirements. Whistlepig Gravestock Wheat Whiskey Review.

Image
Sometimes, I know I'm walking into a weird one, and I do it anyway. WhistlePig’s GraveStock Wheat Whiskey, a collaboration with none other than the canned chaos kings over at Liquid Death. Yes, the water company. This oddball pairing had me equal parts skeptical and curious. On one hand, I drink Liquid Death’s sparkling water and teas almost daily, they've been a lifesaver in helping me kick the afternoon energy drink habit. On the other hand, WhistlePig and I have a... complicated history. Some hits, some serious misses. So when I saw this bottle on a Total Wine shelf a good price, I figured why not roll the dice? If nothing else, it makes for a hell of a conversation.      Let’s break this Frankenstein creation down. WhistlePig sourced a Canadian whiskey built on a rye and wheat mash bill. They then shipped it down to the U.S., where it was finished in oversized 380-gallon charred American oak “caskets.” For perspective, your typical whiskey barrel i...

Larado Whiskey Single Barrel 6 Year Wheat Whiskey Review.

Image
I received this spirit as a review sample from Larado Whiskey, linked here . It is important to clarify this did not impact the ratings of this review.      Now I am always keeping my eyes peeled for brands to checkout and the other day while on that hunt I ran across Larado Whiskey. Essentially Larado is based out of Colorado where they are sourcing a whiskey from Indiana and bringing it back to Colorado for aging. Personally, I think this is a great idea and I love seeing the transparency of Larado's process. For this release we do see something that is quite uncommon, a wheat whiskey.      You might be thinking this is a typical mash bill for such a release, but it is far from that. Not only are they choosing a mash bill using 95% wheat but also keeping a solid age statement on it. Typically we see wheat being used as an accent grain, which is does quite well.   I've had some experience with this level of wheat being used in...

Journeyman Distillery Corsets, Whips, Whiskey Beer Barrel Finished Whiskey Review.

Journeyman Distillery Corsets, Whips, Whiskey Beer Barrel Finished.      Over the past year I've been picking up so many spirits from Journeyman Distillery. Since they opened a second distillery right in Valparaiso Indiana, they are a short drive away. Honestly, I've really enjoyed so many of their offerings and they are becoming a great definition of what makes craft spirits. The other day I was up having dinner at the distillery (great food and cocktails by the way) and stopped into the gift shop as I normally do. Seeing this instantly caught my eye since I've noticed many distilleries using beer finishing casks. Not sure if that's the new thing or what, but it seems to be many of them coming out. While I've never had any beers from Half Acre Brewing, I figured I will take the dive! For the full video review visit the link here!:  https://youtu.be/033v_I65C70 Age Statement:  N/A. ABV:  54.44% (Cask Strength). Mashbill:  100% Organic Wheat. Area...
