West Fork Whsky Co. Single Barrel Double Oaked Whiskey Review.

West Fork Whsky Co. Single Barrel Double Oaked Whiskey Review.

West Fork Whiskey Company has been steadily growing its reputation out of Westfield, Indiana, distilling and aging whiskey that speaks to both craft authenticity and bold flavor. Their double oaked bourbons have always had my attention, and when the r/bourbon community announced a barrel pick near the end of 2024, I knew it was going to be something special. Not only did they select a single barrel cask strength expression, but they chose to showcase it in double oak form, a profile I’m already partial to.

West Fork continues to handle all their own distilling, aging, and bottling under their primary label, while sourcing some whiskey under their Old Hammer line. This selection is all West Fork, presented at barrel proof and untouched beyond the double oaking. While there is no listed mash bill, if memory serves me correctly, I believe this was their High Rye mash bill.

Age Statement: 6 1/2 years.

ABV: 63.49% (Single Barrel & Barrel Proof).

Mash bill: 73% Corn, 27% Rye (presumed).

Area of Distillation: Westfield, Indiana.

Appearance: Dark mahogany.

On the nose:
The first impression is everything you hope for in a double oaked bourbon at full proof. Rich and oaky with deep layers of molasses, charred barrel, and antique wood. Sweet buttery corn and maple syrup weave in alongside dark fruit, fig and cherry, with accents of caramel, Madagascar vanilla, and cocoa powder. Despite its strength, the nose feels elegant and velvety, offering both power and restraint.

Taste:
Sweet buttered corn greets the front of the palate before giving way to a wave of oak, chocolate, and baking spice. Cocoa powder and dark caramel dominate, with wood sugars and vanilla tying everything together. The mouthfeel is rich, coating, and far more approachable than the proof suggests, drinking closer to 60% than nearly 64%. Notes of cocktail cherries dipped in bitter dark chocolate emerge, balanced with a peppery spice and subtle grain character that hints at rye.

Finish:
Long, warm, and indulgent. Pepper spice lingers with dark chocolate bitterness and a return of cherry fruitiness. It’s decadent without being overbearing, leaving behind a lasting impression of sweet oak and pastry-like richness dusted with powdered sugar.

Final Thoughts:
This r/bourbon community pick is an absolute triumph. It’s a steal for a six-and-a-half-year-old, cask strength, double oaked single barrel from a craft distillery. I’d easily pay closer to $75 without hesitation. What West Fork and the community delivered here is near perfection, a symphony of richness, balance, and intensity that showcases the very best of what double oaked bourbon can be.

Rating: A (Excellent).

Cost: $59.99 for 750ml.
