World Whiskey Society Astro Extra Anejo Tequila Review.

World Whiskey Society Astro Extra Añejo Tequila Review.

I received this spirit as a review sample from the World Whiskey Society, linked here, linked here. It is important to clarify this did not impact the ratings of this review.

Every now and then, a bottle comes along that stops you in your tracks before you’ve even pulled the cork. That’s exactly what happened with World Whiskey Society’s Astro Extra Añejo Tequila. For those who follow my reviews, you know this group has been making real waves by sourcing unique barrels from around the world, bottling everything from cask-strength bourbons to distinctive finished whiskies. But this release marks something entirely new for them, it’s their very first tequila. And while the exact casks aren’t disclosed, I would guess they are using ex-bourbon casks as most Tequila does.

Age Statement: +3 years.

ABV: 40%.

Mash bill: 100 agave.

Area of Distillation: NOM 1414.

Appearance: Deep golden straw.

On the nose:
The first swirl brings forward layers of sweet, earthy agave, grounded by cracked black pepper and a subtle char. Caramel and oak sugars mingle with hints of grilled cactus and herbal spice. It’s a nose that feels rich yet approachable, the kind that keeps unfolding the longer you sit with it.

Taste:
The sip opens softly but grows into something far more impactful than expected. Sweet agave earthiness meets peppery spice, wrapped in a creamy, almost soda-like sweetness that reminds me of homemade cream soda without the fizz. The mouthfeel is velvety and slightly oily, carrying notes of grilled cactus, lemon zest, and a touch of coriander. It’s layered, complex, and incredibly easy to enjoy.

Finish:
Lingering sweet earth and spice carry on long after the swallow. The agave character remains front and center, but it’s balanced by the oak’s warmth and a gentle herbal lift. Smooth, buttery, and elegant, the finish makes it hard not to reach for another sip.

Final Thoughts:
World Whiskey Society’s Astro Extra Añejo is a striking first step into tequila. It’s positioned firmly in the luxury category, and the presentation matches that ambition. But more importantly, the spirit inside lives up to the promise. With its sweet-earthy complexity, buttery texture, and lingering finish, this is a tequila that deserves sipping slowly and sharing proudly. For what it delivers in the glass and for the statement it makes as WWS’s tequila debut a win.

Rating: A- (Amazing).

Cost: $199.99 for 750ml.
