Patrón Ahumado Reposado Tequila Review.

Image
Patrón has been experimenting with smokier tequilas, attempting to capture some of that bold, earthy essence found in mezcal but with a smoother, more approachable profile. Their Ahumado Reposado is a continuation of that effort, made from 100% Blue Weber agave roasted over charcoal to introduce a gentle smokiness. It’s aged between 2 and 12 months, giving it the character of a reposado while keeping it accessible for those new to smoky agave spirits. After trying their Blanco, I was curious how the aged version would perform, and whether that smokiness would come through on the palate.      The agave for Patrón’s Ahumado Reposado is carefully roasted over charcoal, then distilled and aged in barrels for up to a year. This short aging period keeps the color light and the flavors approachable, allowing the gentle smokiness to complement, rather than overwhelm, the natural sweetness of the agave. It’s a tequila that’s designed to introduce the ...

World Whiskey Society Astro Extra Anejo Tequila Review.

Image
I received this spirit as a review sample from the World Whiskey Society, linked here , linked here. It is important to clarify this did not impact the ratings of this review.     Every now and then, a bottle comes along that stops you in your tracks before you’ve even pulled the cork. That’s exactly what happened with World Whiskey Society’s Astro Extra Añejo Tequila. For those who follow my reviews, you know this group has been making real waves by sourcing unique barrels from around the world, bottling everything from cask-strength bourbons to distinctive finished whiskies. But this release marks something entirely new for them, it’s their very first tequila. And while the exact casks aren’t disclosed, I would guess they are using ex-bourbon casks as most Tequila does. Patrón Sherry Cask Aged Añejo Tequila Review.

Image
Patrón isn’t usually the brand that gets enthusiasts buzzing, but this bottle had quietly caught my attention for years before it vanished from shelves. When I finally stumbled across it on a clearance rack, curiosity won out. A tequila aged exclusively in sherry casks is still a rarity, and for someone easing deeper into tequila while already loving sherry influence, this felt like a gamble worth taking.      This expression starts with Patrón’s 100% Blue Weber agave and skips the typical bourbon barrel route entirely. Instead, it is aged for at least two years in Oloroso sherry casks, with no secondary finishes or prior bourbon influence. That transparency alone is refreshing, especially in a category where finishing details can sometimes be vague. Oloroso isn’t my personal favorite sherry style, but the concept of full-term aging in those barrels is undeniably intriguing. Tres Agaves Single Barrel Extra Añejo Tequila Review.

Image
This bottle caught me completely off guard, in the best way possible. Tres Agaves was a name I hadn’t spent much time with, and honestly, I assumed it leaned more toward budget-friendly territory. That perception changed fast after some digging online and a conversation at Market District in the Indianapolis area, where I learned this was something special. This single barrel Extra Añejo store pick is believed to be the first of its kind, and with an age statement of 74 months, it immediately demanded attention.      Only 138 bottles were produced from this barrel, and mine happens to be bottle number 26. Seeing an Extra Añejo with over six years of aging at a shockingly approachable price already had me intrigued. Add in the fact that this was aged in Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey barrels, and suddenly this tequila felt like it was speaking my language. Quintaliza Reposado Tequila Review.

Image
I received this spirit as a review sample from the World Whiskey Society,  linked here , linked here. It is important to clarify this did not impact the ratings of this review.      Some bottles grab your attention because of the label. Others do it because of the story. Quinta Repr Tequila pulled me in instantly because of the process, and if you know me at all, you know coffee is part of my daily ritual. Quintaliza is still a relatively new name on U.S. shelves, but they are already making noise by doing something genuinely different in the tequila space. This isn’t novelty for novelty’s sake. It’s a thoughtful finishing process that actually respects the spirit underneath.      Quintaliza starts with tequila, naturally fermented for three days and double distilled. From there, the tequila spends about two months resting in ex-bourbon barrels. That alone would be a solid foundation for a reposado-style profile. Where things g...
