Four Finger Distillery Bottled in Bond Rye Whiskey Review.

Four Finger Distillery Bottled in Bond Rye Whiskey Review.

Craft whiskey is alive and thriving in Indiana, and Four Finger Distillery continues to be a name that defines what small-batch passion can achieve. Based out of Indianapolis, Four Finger handles every step of the process, distilling, aging, and bottling, right in-house. This level of control and transparency is rare, and their latest release, a Bottled in Bond rye whiskey, feels like a proud milestone. Having loved their barrel-proof rye (my top Rye of 2024), I was excited to see how this one held up under the Bottled in Bond standard.

Four Finger Distillery, once known as 1205 Distillery, carries one of the more memorable origin stories. Its name comes from founder and master distiller Brad losing a finger during the construction of the stills, a touch of grit that now defines the brand’s spirit. Visit their tasting room, and you’ll find great cocktails, a friendly team, and a clear sense of craft pride behind every bottle.

Age Statement: 4 years (Under the Bottled in Bond Act).

ABV: 50%.

Mash bill: 55% Rye, 35% Corn, 10% Barley.

Area of Distillation: Indiana.

Appearance: Golden hue.

On the nose:
The nose opens with bold, grain-forward aromas that immediately announce its craft roots. There’s that familiar “antique wood and varnish” note that well-aged small barrels often produce, mixed with sweet corn husk, waxy barley, and a touch of brown sugar. It’s rustic and expressive, equal parts corn sweetness and rye spice.

Taste:
The first sip bursts with flavor. You get raw rye grains, granola, and a touch of chocolate that gives way to nuttiness and charred oak. The mid-palate evolves toward trail mix, honey drizzle, and caramel sweetness. It’s oily, coating, and full of texture without becoming heavy. The interplay between the rye’s spice and the corn’s sweetness is nearly even, making this both accessible and distinctively craft.

Finish:
The finish carries a soft peppery linger, medium in length but rich in flavor. You’re left with notes of milk chocolate, light orchard fruit, and that signature Indiana rye warmth. It’s a clean, balanced finish that rewards slow sipping.

Final Thoughts:
Four Finger Distillery Bottled in Bond Rye is a testament to what Indiana craft whiskey can deliver. It’s a value-packed bottle that shows authenticity, transparency, and character. While I’d love just a touch more rye spice, the grain-driven depth and balance make it a standout. It’s the kind of whiskey you reach for when you want something real; raw, honest, and proudly local.

Rating: B+ (Great).

Cost: $54.99 for 750ml.
